Harbury

   Harbury

The parish of Harbury and Deppers Bridge nestles in the heart of Warwickshire’s beautiful countryside. It has a population of about 2500 and is situated about 5 miles from Royal Leamington Spa and 3 miles from the market town of Southam.

The village is a thriving and busy community which boasts a range of shops and services. There is a well-used village hall, an active church community, a part-time library with a café and a large number of vibrant and diverse local groups. Village events such as the annual carnival and bonfire all contribute to the sense of living in a real community.

People have been living in Harbury for more than 3,000 years and the village is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The village grew substantially in the 19th century due to extensive quarrying in the surrounding area and the construction of the nearby railway. The former GWR line to Birmingham was, at the time, the deepest man-made cutting in the world at more than 100ft deep and is a significant engineering achievement.

At Deppers Bridge the height above sea level is only 260ft, but the main village of Harbury stands on a hill of over 400ft.
